Girdling Roots are roots that overlap other roots and/or the trunk of a tree. They restrict water and nutrient flow to the tree canopy. In severe cases no more than one third can be removed annually, as to not stress the tree.
Trees should also be deep root fertilized to limit stress and dieback, combined with pruning to remove dieback as a result of girdling roots. Common species most effected include : Magnolias, Maples and Water Oaks.
